Succulents have become the new craze in the plant world. Their easy care and interesting foliage make them attractive to gardeners and plant novices alike.
We often get asked, “What is the best way to care for a succulent?”. Here are a few tips.
- Use a cactus mix when planting a succulent. They like a dry sandy mix and thrive best in this soil choice.
- Keep your plants dry. If they are indoors do not water more than one time per week. If they are outdoors keep them in a dry place with great drainage. We suggest containers with interior rock lining so water can easily escape. Also, make sure the container you choose has a drainage hole.
- Chose a good slow release fertilizer such as Osmocote to feed your succulents with. This ensures that a small dose of fertilizer is released each time you water. Both fish emulsion, and compost tea also work well when incorporated with regular waterings.
- Make sure your succulents are in a well lit area- they love full sun. If they are indoors they prefer a South facing window or supplemental lighting.
Succulents can be super easy to maintain as long as you don’t give them too much T.L.C!
